Edward Duane Mills was born September 5, 1957 in Amarillo, Texas. He is a man who firmly believes that the three key phases of life are to Learn, to Earn, and to Serve. Ed has had success with the first two and is now ready to further develop the third phase by serving the people of the 32nd District in Kentucky (Warren and Butler Counties).
Ed Mills grew up in Arlington, Texas and graduated from Desoto High School. He received a BA in Business Management from Northwood University in 1993. In 1995, Ed and his wife Chrystal moved their family to Bowling Green, Kentucky where Ed became the Business Manager for the Corvette Assembly Plant of General Motors. In 1999, while still employed at GM, Ed worked with his sons Clinton and Chris to create Hitcents, a company focused on internet advertising. Although Clinton and Chris were sophomores at Bowling Green High School at the time, Hitcents became a success and the boys were honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration as Kentucky’s Young Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2001.
Hitcents was acquired by Houchens Industries in 2003, having grown from the three Mills to over fifty employees. The company occupies office space in Western Kentucky University’s Center for Research and Development and in 2007 Inc. magazine ranked Hitcents on its Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing companies in the United States. Hitcents was one of only two Kentucky companies to make that list.
On October 31, 2008, Ed retired after a successful tenure at General Motors and determined that having progressed through the learning and earning phases of life, it was time to expand upon the service he was already doing in his church and in the Bowling Green community. Wanting to make a positive impact for Kentuckians, Ed talked with his family and determined that it would be best done as a member of the state legislature.
Ed has been married to Chrystal for 29 years and they have three children: Clinton, Chris, and Macy. Clinton and Chris are graduates of Bowling Green High School and attended Western Kentucky University. Macy is a junior at Bowling Green High School. Ed Mills is devoted to his own family and hopes to help all families in the 32nd District of Kentucky by serving as State Senator.
Fiscal Accountability
I will use my business knowledge and work with other members of the state legislature to make the state financially responsible.
Education
I will push for practical ways to improve education in our state. We need to inspire students to stay in school to improve the future for themselves as well as our communities.
Western Kentucky University
WKU is an invaluable asset to the community. WKU will have my support as it becomes a leading university with international reach.
Economic development
I will work to improve and maintain favorable conditions for businesses in our district and across Kentucky. Employment is the foundation of any successful state.
Affordable and Quality Health Care
Health care is the issue of our time, and I feel it’s important to bring costs under control through private competition -- with government intervention only where absolutely necessary.
Good Change through Energy and Hard Work
I feel that my life is following a clear path: learn, earn, and serve. Although one never stops learning, and hopefully doesn’t stop earning, I believe I’m ready to expand on the third step after absorbing many lessons from the first two. I am ready to serve in the Kentucky Legislature.
